Easter Letter 2010
Dear Friends.
Our Easter feast invites us to bring together two powerful realities, the Incarnation and the Resurrection of the Lord. Together they form a unity and a foundation of faith in the Christian tradition that links God and us in a way that no other religious tradition does. As Christians, we believe Jesus came to us in His humanity fully open to us and to our world so we, in turn could be fully open to God and to each other. As Karl Rahner wrote ....The incarnation of God means: Trust the nearness, because it is not void.
The Resurrection complements and fulfills the promise begun in the Incarnation. God chooses to be with us and promises and invites our trust that, in and through Christ we all can and will be completed with God. St Bonaventure describes our journey to completion as our rising, our ascending to God. And our Holy Week prayer and reflections reminds us how, alone, we will limp along if we depend only on our attempts to climb to God by our own strength or alone. In the Resurrection God comes again with the promise to "pull" us up throughout our lives. On Resurrection Sunday we celebrate not only a moment in time when God "pulled up" Jesus, but we praise God for all the ways God’s actions continue to lift us up in our lives. And we celebrate all the people in our lives who, cooperating with God, help us to rise each day to a fuller, richer life.
This Easter lets us rejoice in the promise of new life begun and fulfilled in Jesus and in the graciousness of God which we demonstrate when we bring kindness and care in God’s name to others. As St. Bonaventure wrote, “Let us say to the Lord Our God: "Lead me forth, Lord, in thy way, and let me step in thy truth; let my heart be glad…." We follow our Lord from life to light this Easter. And as we make our way forward, let us bring God’s light and gladness to enlighten our world through our caring and to fill it and each other with the promise of "lifted up" Resurrection Life!
We await the opportunity to greet you, all, on your next visit to Marriottsville.
Happy Easter!
