Bookstore Acquires A Permanent Location
Guests no longer have to travel all through the building searching for the bookstore - it can now be found in its permanent location next to the hospitality center on the first floor, between the two dining rooms. Begun by the Friends of Bon Secours Spiritual Center, the bookstore's mission is to provide resources to all seeking ways to strengthen their spiritual connection with God. The store is open Monday thru Saturday from 10 am to 3 pm.
So the next time you are visiting the Bon Secours Spiritual Center, don't forget to stop in and take a few moments to browse our selection of books, cards, gift items, and music CDs. One of our friendly volunteers will be happy to assist you. If you would like more information about the bookstore, please contact Lauren Franz at 410.442.3121.
The Friends' Bookstore offers books by authors of many faith traditions, as well as, candles, greeting cards, CDs, Bon Secours signature items (coffe mugs, totes and T-shirts) and so much more. The bookstore accepts MasterCard, Visa, personal checks and cash payment options.

The Love That keeps Us Sane:
Every once in a while a book makes its way into my life that opens up something new and vital, and seemingly just at the right moment. The Love That Keeps Us Sane did that for me this summer. Fr. Marc Foley's pocketbook, drawing on the wisdom of the Little Way of St. Thérèse's of Lisieux, was a wonderful gift at a time I was searching for comfort, consolation and reconnoitering following my brother's death. |

A People's History of Christianity:
For those who wondered if Christianity had any true "characters" left, beside the ones we know and love in the pews and chairs of our modern churches and communities, here is a book for the curious among us. In the same spirit as Howard Zinn's work The People's History of the United States, Diana Butler Bass leads her readers on a grand sweep through the under-reported movements, personalities, and spiritual practices that inform, ignite and sometimes mystify contemporary Christianity. Indicating her intent to provide some of the "deeper stories of tradition" and to rectify the faithful's habit of ridding themselves of the past with a "baby out with the bathwater" tradition, Dr. Bass wants to rediscover the memory of the Christian Church as it was really lived, warts and all! She tells the story of a "generative Christianity" in an "around the campfire" style in which she highlights "meaningful spiritual practices and a renewed sense of spiritual" that she hopes will moor the development of a new emergence of the Christian faith and tell the story for our contemporary church for those both in and not yet of the fold. |
