A unique opportunity to gather for an overnight retreat experience to explore the role of contemplation in your life. The program is based on the work of Thomas Merton, a Trappist monk, who believed that there is only one vocation, “a call to holiness.” Where ever and however you choose to live out your life, if you acknowledge contemplation is a part of it and you attend to develop it in your daily practices you will be on a path to holiness in your effort to become whole. The small group of 15-20 will be facilitated by Joseph Chamberlin, a long time Merton student who will convene and facilitate the group in its reflection and dialogue.

About the Presenter:

Joseph Chamberlin is an educator and group facilitator with more than 25 years of experience. He has designed and facilitated meetings and workshops on topics from strategic planning to conflict management. The organizations and groups he has worked with range from Catholic Relief Services to small group business owners.

While an employee of the Archdiocese of Baltimore, he designed Foundations for Ministry, a fifteen week small group experience to help individuals discern their call (vocation), identify their gifts and determine how best to use their gifts to minister in their community.

"Were You There?" Is a liturgical dance dramatization of the Lord’s Passion, presented by the Rejoice Sacred Dancers, a volunteer group with members from Howard County and Washington County, MD; Northern Virginia, and the eastern panhandle of West Virginia. The group has come together to tell the story of Jesus’ suffering and death through movement and drama. The presentation is about 40 minutes in length and is followed by a brief period of discussion for members of the cast and the congregation to share thoughts and reflections. "Were You There?" is a powerful meditation on the Passion according to the Gospel of Matthew. The service helps those attending better understand Jesus’ sacrifice and prepare for the celebration of Easter.

About the Presenters:

Rejoice Sacred Dancers:"Were You There?" was originally created by Kathleen M. Henry in collaboration with the Credo Liturgical Dance Company of Boston. The Rejoice Sacred Dancers have adapted the choreography while retaining the basic structure and staging of the piece. This is the fourth Lenten season during which Rejoice Sacred Dancers have presented "Were You There?" Several members of the cast have participated in "Were You There?" for many years, dating back to Holy Week, 1995, with the Coram Nobis Liturgical Dance Group, Shepherdstown, WV, and Lumen Christi, a Howard County-based group.
